Eelgrass Dancing
High tide in summer
Eelgrass dancing
Painting with heat, carving with lightning, I uncover memories. Images long forgotten flow, reflected in a surface mark, an intersection, the twist of a curve, the character of an edge, or sometimes, only in the title, as I reflect on a finished abstract form, quivering at my touch and ask what it makes me remember.
Eelgrass Dancing, carved from a single piece of steel, is a delicate three-dimensional composition of finger width curves, quivering for 30 seconds with a gentle touch.
Eelgrass Dancing was the first in a series of sculptures with a similar character. Others include Conspiracy, Reef, Rose Briar, DNA Ladder, Black Roses and Shazam. Eelgrass Dancing and its kin inspired Greene’s first table, Amoeba Cross and Greene's first plasma carved bronze, Hazelnut Rush.
