Painting with heat, carving with lightning, I uncover memories. Images long forgotten flow, reflected in a surface mark, an intersection, the twist of a curve, the character of an edge, or sometimes, only in the title, as I reflect on a finished abstract form, quivering at my touch, and ask what it makes me remember. Behind the red curtain, I enter another world. Cascades of sparks. Emerald pools of molten steel. I carve undulating edges, like fractal coastlines or coral reefs, revisited and refined. Silver, bronze and cobalt tones marked the passage of time. Waves and canyons. Poised on the edge. Seeking the limits of the tools and material. I bend steel to my will – heating, hammering, curling, overlapping and interlocking. Striving to create life. Energy.
