Riptide

(SOLD – Christian Dior flagship store, Seoul, Korea)

Riptide is at once a functional table or counter base and a hand sculpted work of art seen through diaphanous glass. Riptide now serves as a display counter in Seoul, Korea, at Christian Dior’s newest flagship store.

A year in the making, Riptide was Greene’s national sculptural table debut, receiving international press coverage from whitewall magazine, Design Boom, The Epoch Times, The Imprint|The Impression, Senatus, Pursuitist, Büro 24/7, Pasadena Star News, Los Angeles Daily News, At Home in Hollywood and California Home Design. Riptide was designed as a 4’x8’ dining table for Todd Merrill Studio Contemporary to show with Greene’s steel wall triptych, Underwater at Art Miami in December 2014.

Riptide is a swirling, silver and dark gray, three-part plasma-carved and welded sculptural steel table base which recalls the organic forms and sinuous movements of water. Its layering, division in three parts and ocean theme resonate with Greene's wall triptych, Underwater, and the coastal location of the Miami exhibition Riptide was designed for.

After Art Miami, Riptide was on display in Todd Merrill’s NYC gallery and was the design inspiration and centerpiece for L.A. designer Jerome Thiebault’s dining room for the spring 2015 Pasadena Showcase House of Design.

In spring 2015, architect Peter Marino purchased Riptide for Christian Dior’s new flagship store in Seoul, Korea, which opened June, 2015.

Dimensions: 29.25” h, many configurations with various dimensions. The three independent base pieces provide great flexibility in the size, shape and purpose of Riptide. It has been exhibited as a 4'x8' rectangular and 6'x11' oval dining table and is in use by Dior as a 30"x29"x9' display counter.
